Getting Exact Facts about Poker Hands’ Rankings – Part 1

It is important to know and thoroughly understand poker hands’ rankings as this is crucial when you try to take decisions about which card to hold and which card to discard. Apart from this, by having a clear idea about rankings of poker hands, you will be able to weigh your chances and place bet or fold accordingly.

Straight flush is when 5 cards of same suit are in continuous sequence; ace can be either high (Royal Flush) or low. Example: T♠ J♠ Q♠ K♠ A♠ or A♠ 2♠ 3♠ 4♠ 5♠

Four of a Kind is also known as quads when out of five cards, four are of same rank from different suits. For instance, K♠ K♥ K♦ K♣ Q♠ can win you the pot in most of the probabilities.

Full House or full boat/boat represents hands’ rankings when the 3 cards are of same rank and the other two are of another same rank; K♥ K♦ K♣ Q♠ Q♣ can be termed as “Kings full of Queens”. If community cards or wild cards are used, it is possible for two players to have same set of 3 cards of same rank. In this case, the rank of the other 2 cards is considered for tie breaking.

Understanding the Mandatory Spending in Online Poker

Online Poker

As discussed before, there are four types of mandatory spending actions associated with poker games and you can find three of them in online poker. Antes value in real money can be anything from 5¢ to $5 while for $5–$10 Stud games the bring-ins will be around $2. In the Stud game, if the decision of the player with lowest face up cards is to only “bring it in” then other players are forced to match the specified $2 bet for staying in hand. Unlike Antes, the money bet in Blinds is not dead and will be considered while calculating the players’ total obligation for staying in. For instance, if the “big” blind posted $2, other players should also put in a minimum of $2. They do not have to put into pot again if there is no raise from the $2 of big blind.

Mandatory Spending – Time

Instead of taking a fixed percentage from every pot for making an income, the card rooms introduced Time as an alternate. This will require each of the players to give certain amount of money to dealers after the prescribed time interval. However, this is not followed in online poker games.

Hold ‘Em Poker – After the Display of the Flop Cards

Action after Betting Completes

Soon after the first round of betting, as mentioned earlier, the dealer spreads the flop cards in the middle of the table. This is where you have to take quick decisions about weighing your chances; you can either bet or can fold. For instance, if your hole cards are 7♠8♠ and the flop cards are K♦ Q♦ J♥, it goes without saying that your chances for winning the hand are quite thin; thus it will be prudent to fold in the above mentioned case. If the flops had turned out to be 7♥ 7♣ 7♦ for the same hole cards then you should plan your strategies to extract the maximum amount from our opponents. In short, the hole cards and the flop cards will decide your winning chances.

The Turn and the River Cards

After the display of flop cards, betting starts from the player at the Dealer button’s left and completes after every player has either called or folded. Then the dealer will put the turn card, after which the bets and raises will be doubled. If there is more than one player left after the turn card betting round, the dealer will display the river card. The final round of betting takes place and the winner gets the pot.

Have You Heard about Seven-Card Stud Poker?

Still an Old Favorite

Though Hold ‘Em and Omaha games have the highest number of fans, seven-card Stud continues to remain as an old favorite among many of the poker players. Seven-card Stud is also as simple as Hold ‘Em, the only crucial fact in the former is remembering the card which you throw away as you can not use it for improving your hand as the game proceeds. But you will be saved from the trouble if you are playing online as you can use tools such as spreadsheet to keep the complete track of discarded cards. If you are not playing seven-card Stud online then you have to use the best part of your memory.

An Overview about the Game

The game begins with posting of ante by all the players. In $2–$4 seven-card Stud games, the typical ante will be 25¢. While eight players can play in online seven-card Stud, the ante of all the players will add up to the small bet $2. The cards are dealt to the players after the posting of ante where each player will receive three cards. Two of the dealt cards will be face down while one card will be face up. The game of seven-card Stud begins after the cards are dealt.
